How the Calculation Works
Concentration tells you how many milligrams sit in each millilitre of liquid. To find how many millilitres contain your required number of milligrams, you divide the dose by the concentration. The milligram units cancel, leaving an answer in millilitres.
This is the same 'amount divided by strength' relationship used throughout dosage math. It only gives a correct answer when the concentration is expressed per one millilitre.

Worked Example
A dose of 500 mg is needed, and the solution on hand is 250 mg/mL. Divide the dose by the concentration: 500 รท 250 = 2.
So 2 mL of the solution contains the required 500 mg. You can check it in reverse: 2 mL ร 250 mg/mL = 500 mg.
What the Result Means
The result is the volume of liquid medication that contains the dose you entered. In a teaching or reference context this shows how the dose, concentration and volume relate, and lets a student verify a hand calculation.
